Struggling to put on size? Building pure muscle is one of the hardest things a human body can do. It requires immense energy, perfect recovery, and brutal workouts. Here are the 5 golden rules.
1. Eat in a Caloric Surplus
You cannot build a house without bricks. To build muscle, you need to eat more calories than you burn. A surplus of 300-500 calories is ideal for lean bulking without gaining excessive fat.
2. Train Close to Failure
If the set doesn't challenge you, it doesn't change you. The last 2-3 reps of a set are where the muscle fibers are truly forced to adapt and grow. Push yourself, but maintain good form.
3. Prioritize Compound Movements
Isolation exercises are great, but heavy compound movements build the foundation. Ensure your routine includes:
- Squats
- Deadlifts
- Bench Press
- Overhead Press
- Pull-ups
4. Track Your Workouts
If you're lifting the same weight for the same reps for 6 months, your body has no reason to grow. Track every workout in a notebook or app and aim to beat your previous numbers. This is Progressive Overload.
5. Respect Recovery
Muscle isn't built in the gym; it's built in bed while you sleep. Taking rest days is just as important as training days.
